Lip Fillers
Q) What are lip fillers?
A) Lip fillers are injectables used to augment the volume and/or shape of the lip. Most reputable clinics offer hyaluronic acid based lip fillers. At our clinic we use the Juvederm range of fillers which consist of water, hyaluronic acid and a small amount on anaesthetic.
Q) Can lip fillers be done without looking unnatural?
A) Yes. In fact, the goal with treatment is to enhance the lips subtley so as to improve the projection without overfilling. The most we do in one sitting is 1ml of lip filler which is approximately 1/5th of a teaspoon of volume. We try to discourage over-filling lips as often as possible and focus on natural results instead.
Q) How does lip filler work?
Hyaluronic based lip fillers like Juvederm work by restoring volume in the lip directly as well as stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis in the lip. It also works to draw in water which helps to hydrate the lip over time.
Q) How long do they last?
Typically 1 to 2 years.
Q) Does the procedure hurt?
A) Before the procedure you will have a anaesthetic cream applied to the lips which does a great job at temporarily numbing the area. This combined with a careful technique from you aesthetic doctor usually makes treatment almost pain free.
