Anti-wrinkle injections

Q) What are Anti-wrinkle injectables?

A) Anti-wrinkle injectables are a treatment for fine lines and wrinkles around the face. The treatment involves injecting a neuromodulator into target muscle groups to temporarily reduce movement of overactive muscles. There are two main benefits of this treatment.

1) After 10 - 14 days, treatment usually leads to a refreshed appearance around the eyes and a subtle, natural lift in target areas which usually lasts up to 3 months.

2) With consistent treatment, treatment of Anti-Wrinkle Injections lead to gradual softening of etched-in lines and smoothing out of wrinkles over time.

Q) What are the brands used?

A) “Anti-Wrinkle Injections” is a catch-all term for Botulinum Toxin A. There are many brands that exist and are used in Ireland, however only a handful of brands are HPRA (Health Products Regulatory Authority) approved. At Nexus Aesthetics clinic we used Botox, Azzalure/Dysport and Bocouture. Each product has its own distinct properties and selection will depend on numerous factors presented at consultation.

Q) Who is authorised to carry out Anti-Wrinkle treatment in Ireland?

A) Only Doctors and Dentists with active memberships with the Irish Medical council and Irish Dental Association respectively can carry out these treatments.

Q) Does the treatment lead to a natural looking result?

A) One of the primary focuses of Nexus Aesthetics Clinic is achieving the most natural results possible. Due to the massive variability of quality in the aesthetics industry, some people considering anti-wrinkle injections are afraid of looking ‘done’ or ‘frozen’ however the aim of treatment is that you get a refreshed, more youthful appearance without compromising how natural you look.

Q) How long does it last?

A) Anti-wrinkle injectable treatment typically starts to work on day 2. You should get a visible effect by day 7 and full effect on day 14. Peak effect usually lasts up to 6 weeks in females and 5 weeks in males. Following this, it gradually starts to wear off and is usually fully worn off within 3 months in women and 2 and a half months in men.

Q) Is treatment painful?

A) As the needles are very small the vast majority of patients receiving anti-wrinkle injections are pleasantly surprised at how quick and relatively pain-free it is.

Do I need to attend review?

Though not mandatory, it is often good to come in for a review at the two week mark if you are a new patient so that we can assess your response to treatment. The review is free of charge and is a good opportunity to adjust the dose if necessary.
