Dermal filler - FAQ

A) Dermal fillers are injectables used for volume replacement, facial contouring and midface lifting. Most dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid based which work by drawing in water and stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis in target areas.

A) Dermal filler can be used in various areas of the face for various concerns. One of the most common indications of dermal filler is for correction of volume loss. This is most commonly caused by ageing and rapid weight loss and is typically seen in areas like the cheeks, naso-labial folds and marionette lines.
As we age, we lose volume around the face. What usually follows this is facial descent. Implementation of dermal filler, paricularly in the cheek area, can be useful for the purpose of lifting our midface which can reduce facial descent and slow down facial descent in the future.
Dermal filler is also useful when used to augment bone in certain areas of the face. For example, a robust product can be used around the chin, cheeks, nose or jawline.

Usually to achieve a lift, small quantities of long lasting dermal filler are placed in the cheek area. This treatment usually takes less than 20 minutes with minimal downtime.
